Isaiah 51:3 (NASB) “Indeed, the Lord will comfort Zion; He will comfort all her waste places. And her wilderness He will make like Eden, And her desert like the garden of the Lord; Joy and gladness will be found in her, Thanksgiving and sound of a melody.”
Ephesians 5:17-21 (NASB) “So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.”
Men of the church we have a downfall called apathy. Meaning we show a lack of interest in worshipping our God. We are unable to show any emotion or expressiveness in our praise to the Lord. Where is our joy? Where is our thankfulness? Three or four songs on a Sunday morning and we are done for the rest of the week. We give those who do not believe absolutely no reason to turn to a life of freedom in Christ. In our Sunday morning church services our indifference to celebrating Christ is on full display for all to witness. We need to repent!
Did not Christ die that we might live eternally with no pain and no sorrow? Doesn’t the Father welcome us back to Him with open arms of infinite love? If we let Him, the Holy Spirit will guide our every step to keep us from falling. Yet we don’t want to praise Them. We don’t want to thank them. Instead of being overjoyed we seem bored.
Okay, enough of the negative. What do we do to return the joy of the Lord back to Christian men? Simple question. Is there a simple answer? Maybe. It’s got to start in our early morning times with the Lord in prayer and reading His word. If this time is missing in your life then it’s where you need to start. First, there can be no excuse for missing this time alone with God. And second, the longer we stay in our quiet place in reading, in thought, and in prayer, the better we will feel about praise.
Do you ever notice yourself humming a hymn? Whistling a spiritual song? Do you sense a lightness taking over your spirit? This is when the beginning of worship takes over a man’s soul. If it was good enough for King David, we should not be too proud to try. Peace will take over your heart and gratefulness your spirit. Relax and let the Spirit fill you with joy and gladness. It’s a good way to live!
Let’s try
